WITH a little help from their friends, the
newly formed Williamtown White Point-
ers Rugby Club (WWPRC) made a big
splash at the 18th annual rugby 10s at Ka-
pooka last month.
The White Pointers won the Bowl
final against Puckapunyal Boars 17-10.
It was anything but easy though.
The whole tournament was a war of
attrition for the team, which had drafted
in two RAAF Base Richmond players at
the outset just to make up the numbers.
Come the final, two more Richmond
players were roped into the team to
cover for injured players.
The White Pointers were down at
half time in the final and the game
only turned when one of the Richmond
imports, LAC Jeff Moate, made a huge
hit which resulted in the ball being
spilled and the team scoring a length-
WWPRC president WGCDR Lee de
Winton was pleased for the players.
She said the club was the
brainchild of a few exceptionally keen
Williamtown players, led by FLGOFF
Andre Holmes and CPL Alan Spence.
"The club was endorsed by Air
Force Rugby Union (AFRU) at the end
of 2010 and will be officially playing
under the RAAF Williamtown Welfare
umbrella in 2011," she said.
It had its first hit-out at the Kiama
sevens in February, though FLGOFF

check which went some way to helping
them unwind and forget all the rib injuries
they had copped during the tournament.
Ten members of the team will not
get too much rest and recreation though.
FLGOFF Holmes, CPL Bodine
Luscott, CPL Mick Godfrey (who
captained the team at Kapooka), CPL
Mick Wallace, LAC Mick Mason,
LAC Moate, LAC Shaun Connolly,
LAC Jevon Alexander, AC Andrew
Cunningham and AC Peatrie Birney are
members of the AFRU squad that is
contesting the Burn Merz Cup between
the Australian, NZ, US and Malaysia air
forces in Brisbane from April 11 to 25.
