involved 10SQN's Crew 5 conducting

the Japanese Maritime Self Defence
It was as challenging as maritime
operations can get -- they were able to
locate and track a modern diesel-electric
submarine in a high sea state.
10SQN XO SQNLDR Gary Lewis
said it was a fantastic opportunity for
all those who were chosen for the trip.
"Twenty-five personnel were fortunate
to be able to spend time in Japan, which
is a nation with which Australia already
shares such an important maritime secu-
rity relationship," SQNLDR Lewis said.
"Not only was the flying environment
challenging, but the food, people and
geography was something many of the
team had never experienced before."
Nitchi Gou Trident 09 aimed to pro-
mote regional security and interoperabil-
ity between Australia and Japan.
